India's entry to the Oscars, 'Lagaan' was a different approach to the game of cricket with patriotism at the core of it. Set in the Victorian period it shows how a game of cricket changes the fate of an entire village. the film won critical acclaim as well as good box-office reception.
This is an inspirational story about a deaf and mute boy who refuses to let his shortcomings to come in the way of his dream of becoming a cricketer. The film saw splendid performance from Shreyas Talpade and Naseeruddin Shah, this movie also had Kapil Dev making a special appearance.
'Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii'
Inspired from the Hollywood movie 'Like Mike', it is about a 13 year old orphan boy who is on a roll owing to his magic bat which results in great success on field for him. Kapil Dev appears as himself in
'Say Salaam India'
A film starring Sanjajy Suri, Milind Soman and Sandhya Mridul, it deals with the passion required for the game and not the glitz and glamor attached with it.
This movie stars Kunal Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Paresh Rawal in the lead. It shows three parallel stories with cricket as the main theme all three. Cricketer turned commentator Harsha Bhogle appears as himself in the film.
'Meerabai Not Out'
Mandira Bedi's return to the big screen with a movie based on cricket seemed the right choice to make considering her journey with cricket. However, this story of a cricket fanatic bombed at the box-office and very few people watched it.
Harman Baweja's another disaster after 'Love Story 2050' it was one of the costliest films films ever made in Bollywood. The movie is about the journey of an aspiring cricketer who goes through the ups and downs of being a cricketer. The movie also had a huge number of cricketers in cameos including Allan border, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mike Hussey, Brett Lee, Muttiah Muralitharan and Ishant Sharma amongst others.
'Dil Bole Hadippa'
'Dil Bole Hadippa' was touted as the comeback of Rani Mukherji it was loosely based on the Hollywood movie 'She's The Man', and is about a woman disguising herself as a man in order to pursue her dream of playing cricket. Rani Mukherji and Shahid Kapoor disappoint in this flick.
The latest movie to be released which is based on cricket. Starring Akshay Kumar, Rishi Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in lead roles, the movie is about an Indian man's dream to play for the English cricket team despite being attached to his roots.
