Default TOP 100: India's sporting icons of the decade (2000-2010)

India's sporting icons of the decade

THE CHAMPIONS
It was an unprecedented decade for Indian Olympic sports. From 2001 to 2010, India produced champions in Tennis, Boxing, Chess, Badminton, Shooting, Wrestling and Athletics. At the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, India finished in second place. At the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou India won medals in 14 disciplines. It wasn't cricket alone that climbed the peaks of success. In this decade India's Olympic sportsperson made the tri-colour go up again and again.

Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was the toast of the nation as the Armyman picked up a silver in the men's double trap event at the 2004 Athens Olympics. It was truly, as a commentator put it, 'a picture postcard moment'.
