Nestled in lap of the Himalayas, the hippie town of Manali is a traveller’s delight. This beautiful hill town is paradise for those looking to unwind and rejuvenate in the lap of nature; for there is arguably no other place in the country more vibrant and charming as Manali. Here are the top experiences you must have in this quaint town in Himachal Pradesh.
First and foremost, for a one-of-a-kind experience, head to Vashisht Hot Springs, famous for its sweeping valley views and sulphurous hot-water springs. If you’re feeling tired and sick after your long journey to Manali, a dip in the hot water springs will cure you of all ailments.
A trip to Manali is also incomplete without visiting Rohtang Pass, located almost 4,000m above sea level. The stunning snow-covered pass is located on the Leh highway and is open only from June to October every year. The pass affords spectacular views of glaciers, mountain peaks, and the gushing Chandra river. You can also enjoy thrilling adventures such as skiing and sledging near the pass. Tucked snugly between Beas Kund and Solang Village, the Solang Valley, also offers panoramic views of the beautiful glaciers and snow-capped peaks of Manali. It’s also a hotbed for adventure activities like paragliding, parachuting, horse riding and zorbing.
Hadimba Temple is another attraction; much unlike any regular temple we see in the country. It’s famous for its unique wood and stone architecture, and is located in the middle of the Dhungri Park. Speaking of parks, the Great Himalayan National Park too is definitely worth a visit here; it is home to 400 species of stunning Himalayan fauna. In addition, the park offers great trek routes and camping facilities for an unforgettable experience.
Home to a sizeable Tibetan population, you’ll also come across many Tibetan Monasteries here. These serene prayer houses are a treasure trove of Tibetan culture, literature and art and craft. The two prominent monasteries worth a visit are Gadhan Thekchhokling Gompa and Himalayan Nyingamapa Gompa. The nearest airport from Manali is in Bhuntur in Kullu, about 50km away.
