5. Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao

Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao tried to serve together two reality shows in one – ‘ Khataron Ke Khiladi ’ (for the yucky stunts) and ‘ Bigg Boss ’ for the *****ing sessions. But it gained popularity mainly for the ‘wild’ scenes that surely didn’t come from the jungles but human inhabiting them. Skimpily clad girls like Nigar Khan, Mona Vasu to Shweta Tiwari bathing in bikinis in the jungles got late-night programming at 10 pm slot.

4. Dance India Dance

After musical talent-hunt shows ruling the small screen for almost half a decade, this show changed the trend in 2009 to dance talent-hunts. With a different panel of judges comprising choreographers like Remo, Terence Lewis and Geeta Kapoor and Mithun Chakravarthy being their bigger boss, this show brought to stage some really different and interesting dancing talents and was a hit even in the remotest interiors of India.

3. Bigg Boss 3

After two years, Bigg Boss had almost become a brand in reality TV. Amitabh Bachchan made the brand all the more bigger. More interesting personalities and equally intriguing conflicts between them appealed to the voyeuristic audiences and made the show a big hit in its third consecutive year.

2. Rakhi Ka Swayamvar

While the world claimed that this was staged reality, everyone was still glued to it. The idea of Rakhi Sawant choosing a life partner from 16 prospective grooms might have looked corny. But knowing Rakhi Sawant, people were sure that irrespective of the authenticity of reality TV, entertainment was guaranteed. The show also made a star out of Elesh Parujanwala and made way for spin-off like Pati, Patni aur Woh .

Now this had no stunts, no talent-hunts, no back-*****ing but still Sach Ka Saamna had the audiences glued to TV sets at 10 pm. The Indian version of The Moment of Truth worked as a confession box for several participants and dramatic moments better than the most high-voltage soap-opera. Whether it was a celebrity or a common man on the hot seat, audiences were as much hooked on to the show for its format more than the participant.
