Default MTV Roadies 8.0 - 2011 Full Details/Contestants/Photos/Videos/Eliminations

About the show:
  • MTV Roadies Shortcut To Hell is the eighth season of MTV Roadies, a reality television show aired on MTV India. The season 8 of roadies was also known as "Shortcut To Hell" as the second half of the season took place in Brazil.
  • The audition episodes were aired from 22 January 2011 and the journey episodes began airing on 5 March 2011. Its auditions were held in various cities of India, like Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Delhi and Pune. The audition is done by Raghu Ram, Rajiv Laxman and Rannvijay Singh. The title was won by Aanchal Khurana from Delhi.
Winner:
  • Aanchal Khurana, the second female roadies winner, has been widely criticized by the audience after her win. The Roadies Grand Finale II episode received the least rating so far at 1.69/5 and has been credited as the worst Roadies episode till date. The viewers were appalled to see that a vote was considered to decide the winner unlike the previous seasons where usually a final task is performed to decide the winner.
  • Moreover, Aanchal Khurana being declared the winner stated that "Not only boys, even girls also can win the show", added fuel to the wide belief that she won the show only as a result of sympathy votes to elect a girl as Roadies winner. She's still ridiculed on many Facebook and Twitter groups and pages with the audience crying hoarse that she didn't deserve to win the show. All through the show she was known for abusing the contestants with Renee. But Raghu and Raajiv said that most of the people don't know how tough it is to get to the finale and therefore it is justified that Aanchal won.
  • The Indian tribune is reported to have said the following about the winner "MTV Roadies Season 8 had a very disappointing end on the internet and for TV audience. Masses were not happy with the finale, and didn't think that Aanchal deserved to win. The dissatisfied viewers went full throttle on the social networking sites, posting comments on their own profiles as well as the MTV Roadies page. The grand finale, as and when it was being telecast, got a flurry of comments on Twitter and Facebook- with most people ranting about how big a let down this season has turned out to be. As soon as the episodes were uploaded on YouTube, there were people commenting on the videos and they clearly were not too happy."
Avtar Nischal, Suchit Vikram Singh, and Mohit Saggar returned as All-Stars for Roadies X - Battle for Glory. Nischal withdrew in mid-season, Singh finished in 10th place and Saggar eventually placed as 2nd Runner-up.

Default MTV Roadies 8 Audition 2010 | Roadies Audition 8.0 in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh,

Roadies 8: Contestants Info

An article on the Roadies 8 contestants. Provides information on each contestant of Roadies 8 on MTV. Includes bio of selected participants Renee Dhyani, Suchit Bikram Singh, Aanchal Kumar, Suraj aka Nagesh, Rahul Sheorani, Avtar Nischal, Pooja Banerjee, Mohit Saggar. Anamika Dutta, Chandni Joshi and Dev Singh.

Roadies 8 is a show that has probably got you hooked to it every weekend. The contestants that have been selected are from different parts of the country and have been selected on the basis of their spunk and originality.

Renee Dhyani
This Delhi lass was born and brought up in the capital itself. Her father worked in the Indian Navy and her family is very conservative according to her. She was working in a call centre and was apparently thrown out of her house for joining the call centre.

Suchit Bikram Singh
Another Delhiite selected to be a part of the show, this guy is a talented dancer too. He looks fond of posing for pictures. His interview revealed a sensitive side of his with him admitting to having a split personality. He came across as a nice human being and, hence, managed to win over the judges.

Pooja Banerjee
The second contestant selected from Pune auditions, this Bong babe is multi-talented when it comes to extra-curricular activities. She is a national level swimmer and is into athletics, is a great dancer and is also good at choreography. Even after Roadies, the lady will have no difficulty in choosing a good vocation to fulfill her interests.

Rahul Sheorani
Making the cut in the Chandigarh auditions, this fellow is pursuing his graduation in Delhi. According to him, he cool and composed as a person which , we think is a necessity in the show. Also, the guy has a good sense of humour and is of very warm nature.

Anamika Dutta
A dentist by profession, Anamika impressed the judges with her simplicity and humour. She is tom-boyish in nature and is keen to express her originality with her unconventional approach to life.

Mohit Saggar
This good looking fellow was also a part of the Chandigarh auditions. According to Mohit he has immense will-power and strength of character. He is an adventure enthusiast and loves indulging in sports.

Chandni Joshi
She was the lone candidate selected from the Ahmedabad auditions ahead of a strong 2,500, mostly male, participants. She is a NIFT graduate from Gandhinagar and is super-excited to be a part of the show. She is a headstrong girl and is hell-bent on winning Roadies 8.

Dev Singh
He was another lone candidate to be selected amongst thousands. Dev is originally from Chandigarh but was selected from Bangalore. It was only after 6 previous attempts that Dev was able to impress the judges and become a part of MTV Roadies 8. He is a massive fellow and we are hoping he will be a trouble maker in the show.

MAKING THE ROADIES SONG

"Why don't you get lyricists, music directors and singers from Bollywood to make the roadies song?"
I was asked this question almost every day after we decided to make a Roadies song. I gave them my answer, but most people couldn't understand it.

"...Because then, it would be their song! Roadies would have just paid for it."

"But that's how everyone does it!"
Not us. We make
ROADIES. We haven't got to being the longest-running and most popular reality show in India by doing what "everyone" does.

For a lot of young Indians, Roadies stands for something. And we felt we owed it to them to give them a song that wasn't just meant for the show, but that was the show! Most importantly, the song had to come from the same people who made the show.
So, I found myself sitting down to write the Roadies song. I have written songs before, but I realized just how massive the expectations from this one were going to be. Unsure, I desperately needed help. I needed direction. And I needed inspiration. Arijit Datta.

A young musical genius, his voice is as awesome as his compositions are compelling. One of my innermost circle, he and I share a working chemistry that most bands would **** for. He gets me. He truly understands the show. Who better to make the Roadies song with me? Incidentally, his is the voice that sang the previous roadies song, "Jeet lenge yaar". That song was my first attempt at songwriting.

He now has his own band, AIRPORT. And very soon, you're gonna be hearing this name a lot!
Instead of writing a song about tasks and eliminations, we decided to write about the philosophy behind the journey, where, like in life, there are all kinds of experiences. Some good, some tough. But if we are overly worried about destinations, we're gonna miss out on all the fun of the journey - and that's the whole point of the journey, not the destination.

The sound, too, has evolved from the hummable canteen song that "Jeet lenge yaar" was, to something much more alive, edgier, and raw... in fact, much more ROADIES!

Hope you like the song and accept it as your own, the way you have made the show your own. This is especially for you, straight from our heart. But even if this song doesn't become your Roadies anthem, it's okay. Because making this song was a journey we thoroughly enjoyed...

Suraj a.ka. Nagesh

This contestant was selected from Pune following his heart warming tale of pain and struggle. However, he turned out to be a cheat as he is a hip bartender in reality. For more details on the story read the article

A participant of the reality show Roadies 8, called Suraj, has turned out to be a fake character.

Reports have surged about the actual background of Suraj or Nagesh, who has actually been a student of the Indian Institute of Bartending, and his profile appears on the institute's website.

In the Roadies interview, Suraj claimed that he came from a poor family and that he was working as a dishwasher in Hyderabad. His tale of hardships and struggle won over the judges viz. Raghu, Rajeev and Ranvijay. He ended up being selected as a contestant no the show and also won the viewers' sympathy, being tagged as the most inspiring Roadie.

As mentioned, he studied at the IIBT and was apparently quite successful in the domain of bartending as he even took charge at the Bartending Seminar & Workshop held on 27 July 2010. As mentioned in his profile on the institute's website, he even worked in a call centre before joining the institute.

The question that arises after all this controversy is whether the contestant cheated the judges and the channel or was the show scripted to gain more TRPs for the show? If it was the contestant who duped everyone including the viciously over-rated twins Raghu and Rajeev, and has proven himself to be a smart lad by landing himself in the show. However, the issue of a reality show being scripted raises serious credibility issues with regard to the viewership. Nothing remains real in a reality show if it is scripted and hence needs to raise the bar by doing some 'reality-check' on their participants.
