Ganga Kii Dheej is an Indian television drama series which premiered on November 15, 2010 on Sahara One. The story deals with the ordeals of young unmarried girls in a village called Kaliganj based in rural West Bengal.

Ganga Kii Dheej is one such story that deals with the ordeals of young unmarried girls in a village called Kaliganj based in rural West Bengal. It highlights the growing up of the girls within the restrictions of the various rituals and customs laid down by the self-proclaimed lords of the land. Kaliganj is ruled and is under the supreme power of one such landlord Dadabhai (Kabir Bedi) who is like god to the villagers as most of them work under his command.

Ganga Kii Dheej follows the journey of a young girl Pakhi (Leena Jhumani) residing in Kaliganj and whose life changes because of the set rituals blindly followed by the community. Pakhi’s village is bound and flanked by mountain and water at all four sides and nobody can escape the village without the authorities coming to know about it. The rituals and traditions force the girls in the village to be under heavy protection till they get married. They can’t even step out of the house without a veil and a herd of so-called brothers to go with them to all the places possible in the name of security. The girls get their “freedom” only after marriage but the passage to get married is not easy.

They have to undergo a purity test in the name of religion. Maha Mai (Ashwini Kalsekar) is the village high priestess, who executes the practice and is feared by all the villagers for her dominance over all the people when it comes to religious tolerance. Every father fears the day when the daughter gets married as that means the girl will have to go through the purity test. It’s a tradition blindly followed as nobody can raise a question to Maha Mai at the risk of being ousted from the village.

Tonight's episode of Sahara One's Ganga Kii dheej will see Sharmi failing in the pavitrata test..



Sahara One's much-anticipated show Ganga Kii Dheej went on air yesterday with an inaugural one hour episode. The show which started with the unfortunate death of Geeta (Kritika Kamra) owing to the fear of failure in the Pavitra Pariksha later saw the father of Sharmi (Sonam Mann) getting desperate to get her daughter married without her going thro' the pavitrata test.

Tonight's episode will see a high point wherein Sharmi is forced by the Mahamayi (Ashwini Kalsekar) to go thro' the test, during which she has to stay inside the water for few seconds. After going thro' this, she will be made to walk thro' burning coal.

Our source tells us, "Sharmi will eventually fail in the test, after which Mahamayi will send her to the Narak Ka Dwar which means that the entire village will boycott the girl, including her family after which nobody will be able to see her hereafter".

Narrating more on the sequence our source tells us, "Sonam literally burnt her leg while shooting for her pariksha scene. There was coal kept near to where Sonam was shooting, and by mistake the girl stepped on the coal and burnt her leg. However, she completed the sequence with the same zeal, and only after the shoot got over the unit came to know of Sonam's injury".

Pakhi will encounter lot many problems as she enters DadaBhai's house in Sahara One's Ganga Kii Dheej..



Sahara One's Ganga Kii Dheej finally saw the comeback of Pakhi (Leena Jhumani) and Agantuk (Mohit Raina) from the Narak Ka Dwar in yesterday's episode!! While the entire village is excited about their return, Mahamayi (Ashwini Kalsekar) knows that Pakhi is getting out from one hell only to enter another!!

The story will now focus on Pakhi's dilemma whether to choose Agantuk as her life partner or to get back to Shivam (Saurabh Pandey) who loves her so much.

Our source states, "Pakhi and Agantuk's shuddhi karan will happen in tonight's episode wherein they are made pure again to live their own life. Soon Pakhi will be taken into Dadabhai's (Kabir Bedi) house as his bahu. However, she will face problems in the house wherein certain situations and bad incidents get created in the house, and the family starts blaming Pakhi for it as they believe that she still remains impure. The innocent Pakhi broods over it, but is completely unaware that Dadabhai is the man behind all this, as he aims to destroy and **** her".

"In the meantime, Shivam will also decide to get Pakhi back into his life. He does not believe in the marriage of Agantuk and Pakhi. This will put Pakhi at a spot of bother because she is slowly but steadily developing feelings for Agantuk as he has stood by her in all her tough times", adds our source.

With this, the drama in Ganga Kii Dheek moves from the Narak Ka Dwar and gets into the household of DadaBhai now.. We hear that a new track with Sharmi's (Sonam Mann) comeback from Narak will also be worked out in the coming episodes..

Ashwini Kalsekar's character in Sahara One's Ganga Kii Dheej will come to an end, and Pratima Kazmi will enter the show as the new Mahamayi..

Sahara One's Ganga Kii Dheej will see a twist with the death of one of its major characters!! The negative priestess of the village, Mahamayi (Ashwini Kalsekar) will soon meet with her unfortunate death..



Our source states, "Ashwini Kalsekar is leaving Ganga Kii Dheej, and the story too needed a high point which will be brought about by the death of Mahamayi. Post her death, the show will see the entry of Pratima Kazmi who will be brought in as the new Mahamayi".

"Mahamayi will refuse to perform any more purity tests on the innocent girls in the village, and this will irk Dadabhai (Kabir Bedi) all the more. He will be the one who will brutally **** Mahamayi. With this, Ashwini's track in the show ends", adds our source.

Pratima Kazmi who essays the role of Tapasya's Nani in COLORS' Uttaran will be brought in to the village by Dadabhai as the next Mahamayi. The creative team is currently working on her entry track, and also on the manner in which Dadabhai will cover up for Mahamayi's death.

When contacted, Ashwini Kalsekar confirmed the news and said, "Yes, my character in the show is dying. It was discussed initially that the character would die after a certain time frame. It was a creative decision and I am now getting ready to shoot for a Telugu movie".

We tried repeatedly to get in touch with Pratima, but she did not answer our calls. The lady is presently seen as contestant in Sony's Jubilee Comedy Circus..
