Reality TV ruled the television scene throughout 2009. While the saas-bahu soaps continued to be there it clearly took a backseat making way for the reality entertainment that came in different formats ranging from games shows, chat shows, talent hunts to even bride hunts redefining the concept of entertainment on the small screen. With reality taking over, idiot box was no more an idiot box.

We present to you the Top 10 reality shows on Indian television in 2009.

10. India’s Got Talent

From searching for geniuses in a focused field of music or dance, this talent-hunt show had a more diversified range looking out for talents from any arena. The judges were a diverse mix from actresses Sonali Bendre, Kirron Kher and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur. Though not the best talent-hunt show, it still managed to beat similar shows like ‘ Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega ’.

9. Tere Mere Beach Mein

Farah Khan’s chat show was more informal as compared to good friend KJo’s Koffee with Karan and had everyone from film personalities to cricketers as celebrity guests. Unlike being politically correct on the lines of other chat shows like Rendezvous with Simi Garewal , Farah worked more towards getting her guests speak about the controversies surrounding them thereby using that as the USP of her show.

8. Perfect Bride

From hunting for professional talents, this show got a bit personal offering participants choice for their life-partners. A spin-off on the popular show Rakhi Ka Swayamvar , The Perfect Bride hosted by Amrita Rao and judged by Shekhar Kapoor turned more off a Bigg Boss subsequently.

7. Khataron Ke Khiladi 2

The second season of the Indian version of Fear Factor , Khataron Ke Khiladi had the same format like the first season – 13 ***y females contestants. Just the stunts got more dangerous for the contestants and exciting for the viewer. Akshay continued to spread his Casanova charm on the girls putting them to ease before pushing them for the difficult task.

6. Dus Ka Dum

The second season of Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dum was not as pretentious as the other game show. More than the game itself, it was Salman Khan’s fun-filled chemistry with his guests, whether celebrity or common man, that appealed to the audience. Salman was more humourous and wacky in the second season.
