Default SRK to host Filmfare... again!

Here's some good news for Shah Rukh fans. The actor is set to play a double role again. And this time around people will get to see the two SRKs on stage instead of the big screen.

SRK was supposed to host the Filmfare awards night on February 28. But since he got busy with the promotions of Billu and then undergo his shoulder surgery on February 16 at the Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, the organisers have decided to postpone it to March 7.

Buzz is that SRK will don the two avatars from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. One, a simpleton Suri and the other, a carefree Raj.

But the actor is not going to go easy on the industry people; he will be witty and catty from the moment he goes on stage. This whole act is learnt to be SRK's brainchild.

If one recalls, last year's event stirred up a controversy as the stars took crass behaviour to a new low.

On Sunday night, all soaps and re-runs were put on the back burner as Bollywood dominated the small screen. The Indian audience after years of being subject to slipshod live telecasts, awkward camera movements and comperes fumbling for words when teleprompters go on the blink were treated to a slickly edited, well-scripted award ceremony which probably created higher TRP’s for Sony than anything they have put on air in the recent past.

One of the MCs for the evening Karan Johar had lost his voice. This resulted in his sections being cut down and gave Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan the opportunity to take potshots at one and all in the industry.

For once, the seating was managed beautifully; people were not seated around one table and the audience was spared unnecessary hugging, kissing and backslapping which ensues once the award is announced.
But even as the show scored on all technical points and about two-thirds of the show relied in great humour, there were certain segments, which were really crass, vulgar and done in bad taste. And the omissions and inclusions were so significant that the connections and ramifications of Bollywood become apparent at a glance.

Neil Nitin Mukesh did not win the best debut even though he was nominated for the same. But he was given a chance to perform at the awards not Ranbir Kapoor. After all, that is only to be expected considering Neil's grandfather Mukesh delivered Yash Raj's biggest hit numbers such as Main Har Ek Pal and Kabhi Kabhi Mere Dil Mein

If the music of Taare Zameen Par did not win any awards it did not exactly come as a surprise either. Because Yash Raj films are mighty cheesed off with the well-known trio for the music debacle of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom…

The Saif Kareena package received adequate mileage both on stage and off stage. But that was only to be expected considering Tashan is the next big blockbuster from Yash Raj films.

Let’s take a look at some of these boo-boos….

Aamir Khan of course took the cake. Probably, not wanting to stop Prasoon Joshi and Darsheel Safary, from attending the function, even video clippings of Taare were not made available. At least when Lagaan released five years ago Aamir may have boycotted the functions but he did provide video clippings for the same. Guess he’s just getting cranky with age.

If Om Shanti Om had the batli awards then the 53rd Annual Filmfare Fairone Awards had the Na-real awards. One of the na-real awards (with a decorated coconut as the trophy) was given to Vinod Chopra for the speed at which his film returned from the Oscars. But almost everybody knows about the conflict between Shah Rukh and Vinod Chopra regarding the Oscar controversy. Guess Shah Rukh was just using a public platform to settle personal scores.

And this was not the only instance where SRK was hitting out at his detractors. He even lamented the fact at not being invited for the famous Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding. Considering this one event polarized the entire industry into two clear camps, SRK should have shown the maturity to leave it alone.

Even Rani Mukerji who is known to be an affable person and generally shares good vibes with her co-stars was not spared. Considering there were some judicial disputes about Rani's land near Shirdi, and Amitabh's land in Uttar Pradesh, this wisecracking duo talked about a new film to be made titled … Haare Zameen Par… That Mr Khan is really in bad taste. Comments if any should be restricted to professional lives and not personal misdemeanors.

The performers were mediocre to say the least. Deepika Padukone was wearing a red flowing maxi at one stage and green pajamas at another part of her number. The expression on her face was one of complete fatigue as she apparently went through the moves.

Kareena has lost a lot of weight and her dance s****s have improved tremendously. But the Jab We Met numbers worked onscreen because of her chemistry with Shahid. Performing all alone on stage, the event was good but it lacked punch. Kareena at least was gracious enough to thank her costar Shahid and refrained from potshots and mud slinging which her lover boy indulged in.

When Saawariya and OSO were vying for the top slot at the box-office Farah and Sanjay Bhansali were slugging it out, but SRK wisely refrained and kept out of it all. Now that Saawariya bombed at the box-office SRK was only too happy to take him apart. And appearing on stage in blue towels with a blue facemask was in bad taste. In this lifetime Sanjay Bhansali is not likely to ever work with either Saif Ali Khan or SRK.

And SRK is in a position to quote his terms the real loser in this deal is likely to be Saif Ali Khan. But then when Saif has always been known to be a reckless man.
