Default Topic 34: How to use the Watch Window to Monitor Cells?

Maybe you did not realise that Excel 2007 come with this useful feature called Watch Window!

If you are working on a large spreadsheet, it seems to be simple scrolling up and down to check on the values of certain cells as they change. But if you keep doing it over and over again, finding the cell value here and there...how do you feel?

Luckily Excel 2007 come with a feature called Watch Window. With this, you can monitor different cells in a small window that is always visible or even not on the screen or in a different workbook. This way you can immediately see the values as they change.

To add a cell to the Watch Window

Select the cells you want to watch.
On the Formulas tab, in the Formula Auditing group, click Watch Window.

Click Add Watch icon to specify the cell you wish to monitor.
From the Add Watch dialog box displayed, click the Add ****on.

You will see the window appear (monitor the value of the selected cell) and it will remain on top as you work on any portion of the spreadsheet.

You can reposition the window by dragging and dropping the window to its new location. You can also double-click on the cell in the Watch Window to quickly go to that cell.
