"Who the f*** you think you are!" Did you hear that on TV, with a beep of course? Anything can happen on a reality show.

Reality is stranger than fiction, and the number of reality shows on television is outnumbering daily soap operas. So what's with this sudden inclination towards reality shows!

Well, for some it's a major break from the daily dose of K serial-depression and others find it more intriguing, peeping into others' lives. But the mantra is simple. Involve the viewers in it, and you have a success.



Here are some reality shows currently playing on TV.



Songsters hunt

Sa Re Ga Ma
The 15-year-old show - Sa Re Ga Ma, one of the first reality shows. It has given us some wonderful singers like Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala and Avdhoot Gupte. Despite running for such a long time, the show hasn't lost its luster, and continues to promote new talent.

Rating: 10/10

Indian Idol


Indian idol's first season was a big hit! Farah Khan, Anu Malik and Sonu Nigam as judges were brilliant. The next couple of seasons did not create too much buzz, but some lucky contestants got their big breaks.
Chang Meyang, one of the singers landed one of the best deals - he was the co-host for IPL 2009's Extraa Innings and also the Indian Idol 09 season! Rating: 8/10

Channel V Popstars
Viva and Aasma were born out of talent hunt! The winners manage to grab enough name and fame, but only as long as their contracts are on. But each band member manages to secure individual recognition and has the possibility to be a singer, actor or a VJ!
Rating: 8/10

Super singer hunt
Though the winner for Super Singer turned out to be someone else, Naresh Iyer a contestant grabbed A.R Rehman's attention. He has sung many songs for the music maestro.

Rating: 7/10

Launchpad

Indian bands got quite an opportunity from this show. Some are popular with concerts happening all around the country, while others can be seen playing gigs regularly at clubs.



The show has launched bands like Zero, Them Clones, Helga's Fun Castle, Zephyr, Pin Drop Violence and then The Superfuzz paved way for Reverse Polarity, Faridkot, Cassini's Division, Blank Noise, Workshop, Circus and Prachir this year.

Hot and Spicy

Bigg Boss
Bigg Boss based on the international hit series Big Brother, came as a fresh breath of air. It was different, and caused quite a stir as well with the inmates having an affair, abusing and backstabbing each other.
A bunch of known faces are thrown into a house for almost three months, and the last one surviving wins. Small time celebs got enough limelight, and some yesteryear actors also managed to make a mark.
Rakhi Sawant, Rahul Roy, Ravi Kissan, Raja Chaudhary and Monica Bedi were some of the celebs, who became famous names post the show.
Rating: 7/10



Roadies



The first-of-a-kind reality show (tasks were for real…the verbal fights might have been fabricated) from MTV - Roadies, it was a instant hit.
The show has till date completed six thrilling seasons with loads of adventure and masala. The USP of the show are comments of senior producer Raghu, who has the ability to make even the most deserving candidate feel worthless.

Almost 30 contestants in each season, the faces can be spotted in advertisements. Some turned VJs, while some work for MTV in the production department. VJ Bani and hunk Rannvijay are stars already. Rating: 8/10
Splitsvilla






Just two seasons old, the MTV show has become a runway for many aspiring models. Some guys and girls from Splitsvilla have already signed shows as anchors and some can be seen in advertisements. Some cash and a show on MTV is for grabs here.
Rating: 6/10


Fast and the Gorgeous
The all-chicks show is all about building up a girl team who would be in the pit in the Force India F1 2009 season. The winners will get to be Vijay Mallya's chicks and travel the world with the team.
They will also host Mallya's after-parties! They surely get a super duper break for their modeling career. Do we see them cheering for Bangalore Royal Challengers in IPL 2010.

Dus Ka dum



Rapidly increasing its TRP is Dus Ka Dum, hosted by Salman Khan. While the last series involved viewers, this season belongs to celebrities trying their luck.

What makes the show a must see is Salman's crazy attitude. The star gives the viewers a good laugh.

Superstar commoners
Laughter challenge
Ordinary men… extra-ordinary jokes! Navin Prabhakar's "Paichaan kaun" is still something to laugh about. Sunil Pal, Raju Shrivastava and many others got catapulted into the funny business.
The show gave the struggling funny men a golden opportunity. Most of them got picked up by news channels and other channels for laughter doses.

Rating: 8/10

Dance India Dance
A hyped up version of the first dance show on television Boogie Woogie, Dance India Dance gets the hidden dancers into limelight.
Plus, these contestants from a humble background get the recognition and accolades from Bollywood choreographers!

Rating: 7/10

Entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega
Anu Malik and Farah Khan team up again, and this time they are judging the entertainers. Contestants are from among people like you and me, who have a special s**** to entertain.
No celebrities yet on the show, so we can safely say that this one gives the common man a chance to turn star.

Rating: 6/10

India's got talent
Shekhar Kapoor, Sonali Bendre and Kiron Kher team up to pick out the most talented people of India. A good show going by the performances till now!



There are some really creative people getting recognition and acclaim. Thumbs up for this show, as it truly rewards talent.
