Default Best of 2018 - TOP 10 TV shows Ended due to Poor TRP (Off from Air)

Shani, Haasil, Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara – TV shows that ended in the first quarter of 2018

A look at shows that ended in the first quarter of 2018

The first quarter of 2018 saw a number of new shows being taken off from TV. The obvious reason was the poor TRP for majority of them. A few of them came to their logical end. Some of the abrupt ends that shocked us were that of Haasil and Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara. Despite being made on a lavish scale with Bollywood actors in lead roles, they did not connect with the audience. The most controversial end was of Aisi Deewangi Dekhi Nahi Kahi, where the lead stars accused the producers of inhumane working conditions. They retaliated saying that they had invested a lot in the newbies and such long working hours were the norm in the industry. Here is a look at shows that ended in these three months.

Shani
The mythological drama enjoyed a good run of more than a year on Colors. Young Kartikeya Malviya won over the hearts of viewers with his fine performance as Lord Shani. The show wound up in March to make way for Jennifer Winget’s Bepannaah. Shani is one of the most awarded mythological shows ever for its VFX and production. It also marked the comeback of Juhi Parmar who took a break to focus on her domestic life. Other actors like Salil Ankola, Gufi Paintal, Sudha Chandran also made news for their roles on the show. Rohit Khurrana and Tinaa Dattaa who were paired in Uttaran also made a comeback on TV with this show. (Also Read:

Meri Durga
A couple of shows went off on Star Plus. Meri Durga was the tale of a young girl who was prodigiously talented in the field of athletics. The show never took off the TRP charts though the post leap period was better. Srishti Jain and Paras Kalnawat had a good chemistry on the show that was appreciated by all. Meri Durga made news when reports of Paras dating co-star Urfi Javed started doing the rounds. The show was about a young woman’s dream to pursue a career in the field of sports.

Rishton Ka Chakravyuh
We loved the start of this show. Rishton Ka Chakravyuh was a drama between a mother and her daughter, who was abandoned at birth. It marked the comeback of Narayani Shastri on the small screen after a long time. People also loved Mahima Makwana and Praneet Bhatt’s performance in this show, which dealt with fractured relationship, family politics and manipulation. The writing on the show was also above the ordinary. Narayani was brilliant as Satrupa. It was also the last show of the late actor Tom Alter. Haasil
Launched with a lot of fanfare, Haasil despite its lavish production and good performance from lead actress, Nikita Dutta failed to impress. It had a strong female protagonist in Aanchal, a badass lawyer but the story failed to strike a chord with the audience. Haasil was also the TV debut of Bollywood actor Zayed Khan. It was made by Alchemy Productions. (Also Read: Haasil Review: Nikita Dutta outshines Zayed Khan and Vatsal Sheth in this romantic thriller)

Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara
Adapted from the Turkish show, Aski Memnu, Dil Sambhal Jaa Zara was the TV debut of Sanjay Kapoor. It told the love story of Ahana (Smriti Kalra) and Anant (Sanjay), who had a huge age gap between them. Their love story was complicated by Ahana’s mom, Laila (Niki Aneja) and Rehaan (Ashim Gulati). The title track sang by Arijit Singh was a rage due to its poignant lyrics and melancholic vibe.

Dil Dhoondta Hai
Stavan Shinde and Shivya Pathania starred in this love cum social drama where they explored life in a chawl in Mumbai. However, the show was a no-show as far as popularity is concerned and was wrapped up pretty fast.

Aisi Deewangi Dekhi Nahi Kahi
This was the most controversial shut down with lead actors Jyoti and Pranav Mishra accusing the producers of making them work under inhumane conditions. They said they shot daily for 18-20 hours, which had affected their health. The matter was taken to CINTAA and a battle ensued between the makers and actors. Finally, the show was abruptly shut down though it got decent TRPs.
