Palimar Mutt’s Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swami will be ascending the Paryaya Peetha which is also called the Sarvajna Peetha for the second time at the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple. No seer of the Ashta Mutt other than Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt has ascended the Paryaya Peetha five times ever since the biennial Paryaya system started in 1522 AD. The Paryaya festival is celebrated with much pomp, fervor and grandeur in the temple town of Udupi.
Cutouts and banners carrying the photographs of Vidyadheesha Tirtha can be seen throughout the small town. The most number of banners and welcome arches can be seen on the Jodu Katte, Taluk Office, Court Road, Diana Circle, and Kavi Muddanna Road. Procession
A colourful procession is the main attaraction of the Paryaya festival and it will begin at 3 am from Judu Katte on Thursday. About 15 tableaux and 60 cultural and folk teams are scheduled to participate in the procession.
The outgoing Paryaya seer hands over the ‘Akshaya Patre’ and ‘sattuga’ (vessel and ladle dating back to the times of Sri Madhwacharya) and the keys to the sanctum sanctorum to the ascending Paryaya seer- Vidyavallabha Tirtha is called Paryaya Peetharohana. This function marks the formal transfer of authority and will take place at the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple at 6.35 am.
Durbar Function
At 6.50 am at the Rajangana Hall the Paryaya Durbar function will take place. At noon the ‘Maha Anna Santharpane’ will take place and the rathotsava will be held at 7 pm. At 5.15 am an Akhand Bhajan programme is also scheduled to take place.
