Zee TV surges ahead of COLORS; SAB TV moves past Sony..
The Week 9 of TAM readings brings some stunning results, and it is Zee TV and SAB which have gained in numbers..
The Week 9 of TAM 2011 has a mixed bag of good as well as bad news for the Top GEC's.
Speaking of the channels that gain this week, it is Zee TV and SAB TV that have all the reasons to smile!!
Zee TV has finally managed to out beat COLORS and acquires the #2 position. The channel which has been slowly and steadily growing its content seems to have gained pace now. While all the leading GEC's, except for SAB TV have lost in GRP in the last one week, Zee TV has gained a GRP of 23. COLORS which stood tall as the #2 channel as per the Week 8 TAM figures, has dropped 58 GRPs, thus taking the #3 position with 225 GRP this week.
Star Plus heads the list with a GRP of 297.
What's more, Zee TV is going neck to neck with Star Plus when it comes to the GRPs in the prime time band, i.e. between 19.00 – 23.30 hours. Zee TV stands at a close second position with 154 GRPs, while Star Plus is just ahead with 156 GRPs. COLORS is a distant third with 145 GRPs.
And Zee TV's Pavitra Rishta continues to be the #1 show across all GEC's with an average of 5.5 TVR in Week 9 ratings.
While COLORS seems to be relying heavily on Bollywood movies to push their GRPs further, Zee TV has made it clear that their focus at the moment is only in bettering its content.
Coming to SAB TV India's 1st comedy entertainment channel, they have toppled Sony Entertainment Television for the very first time. As per the latest TAM data, SAB TV has acquired a GRP of 153, thus pushing Sony down which stands at 136 GRP. This turnaround is really stark given the huge difference in investments in both. SAB TV has gained 20 GRPs while Sony has lost by 7 as per the Week 9 figures.
Considering the fact that Sony faces the stick even after investing huge money on big names Amitabh Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit in particular when compared to the one third of the budget that SAB TV works with, is shocking in itself.
Guess with the ICC World Cup 2011 all set to enter into the big-matches phase, the competition between the GEC's to better its content will only get bigger!!
As for now, Channels Zee TV and SAB TV can take a bow!!
