Reality show Bigg Boss 3, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, is in trouble over a case of obscenity.
The Information and Broadcasting ministry has sent a showcause notice to the producers of the show after housemates
Shamita Shetty and Tanaaz Currim pulled down comedian Raju Srivastav’s shorts while dancing around the pool, in the episode telecast on October 25.
The ministry’s notice states that the content is obscene and has offended the sensibilities of many viewers who watch the prime-time show with their families. It also added that the producer provided the obscene visuals to news channels for wider publicity. This has violated Section 5 of the Network Act, which states that no programme, which offends good taste and decency or contains anything obscene, can be transmitted/re-transmitted on any cable service. Further, the government has asked Colors channel not to carry content on the show that ‘constitutes a violation of the programme code which is enshrined in the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act of 1995’, and if they fail to do this, then the show will go off air.
Colors defended its broadcast by saying it “has taken all measures to ensure that the programme is in obedience with the programme code. We will take all precautionary measures which won’t violate the rules and regulations”.
The I&B ministry has been quite busy of late, sendsent similar notices to the producers of Sach Ka Saamna, Pati Patni Aur Woh and Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao.
