Will 2009 be good for 2008's hit actresses?

Some of the most successful 2008 releases have starred not so well-known actresses, introducing us a to whole new generation of rising stars. While some have achieved success in Southern cinema -- like Asin and Genelia D'Souza -- some others got a new lease of life in their careers -- like Minissha Lamba. We take a look at how the 2008 hits helped the careers of these actresses.
Asin
Upcoming Film: London Dreams

Asin is already a big star down South, with many hits to her credit. She made a terrific debut opposite Aamir Khan in Ghajini, one of the biggest hits of the year.
And it helped that Asin is a good actress as well.
After Ghajini, we will see her in Vipul Shah's London Dreams, with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. Word has it that she is also a strong contender for Yash Raj Films' next with Shah Rukh Khan. The other actress being considered is the hit queen Katrina Kaif.

Genelia D'Souza

Upcoming films: Life Partner, It's My Life Genelia has had a great year. She scored hits across film industries -- Ready (Telugu), Santosh Subramaniam (the Tamil remake of her Telugu hit Bommarillu), Satya in Love (Kannada) and the biggest hit of them all -- Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.
Jaane Tu gave her floundering Bollywood career a new lease of life, and made her a youth icon of sorts.
Her 2008 success seems to have rubbed off on this year too. She will be seen in Life Partner, directed by Rumi Jaffrey (of God Tussi Great Ho fame). The film also stars Govinda, Prachi Desai, Fardeen Khan and Tusshar Kapoor. She also has It's My Life with Harman Baweja, directed by Anees Bazmee (of No Entry and Welcome fame).

Prachi Desai

Upcoming films: Life Partner Prachi's timing couldn't have been better. The bahu of TV soap Kasamh Se enjoyed one of the biggest hits of 2008 with Rock On!!. How's that for a rocking debut?
Now this stylish actress is ready to work her magic in director Rumi Jaffrey's Life Partner.

Adah Sharma

Upcoming film: Vikram Bhatt's next

Vikram Bhatt's horror film 1920 was a surprise hit, and became Adah's stepping stone to Bollywood.

Bhatt was quite impressed with his discovery, and signed her on for his next film.
