Ahmed Khan, Remo D’Souza, Prabhudheva: Meet 6 Bollywood choreographers who turned directors
Number 6 will shock you!  Is it just me or you also can tell a movie directed by a former choreographer apart from other movies? Over the years, many Bollywood choreographers have successfully transitioned into being a director. The former-choreographer always adds extra flair to their movies. Everything about their movies is well stylised and in synchronisation. Their habits die hard, you see. Even the actions stunts are so nicely planned out by them, that it almost looks like the characters are in a dance film. This year’s biggest hit Baaghi 2 has been directed by a choreographer turned director. In fact, we can assume what is going to be this year’s next biggest hit, Race 3, has been directed by a choreographer turned director. Well, here we are listing down our favourite choreographers who turned to director’s chair. Number 6 will shock you! Prabhudheva  Prabhudheva is an all-rounder. His career trajectory as an actor, director and choreographer has been quite intertwined. Well, the world knew of him as a dancer who always brings his A-game before he wore the director’s hat for the 2005 Telugu film, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. He then directed Salman Khan for Wanted in 2009 and became a hit director as well. Over the years, in Bollywood, he has directed Shahid Kapoor (R… Rajkumar), Ajay Devgn (Action Jackson), Akshay Kumar (Rowdy Rathore, Singh is Bliing). He will soon begin work on Dabangg 3 with Salman Khan. Meanwhile, you can catch him acting in the silent thriller Mercury, which is due to release this week. Farah Khan  She has got to be the most interesting entry in our list. Farah always wanted to be a director, which is why she was assisting Mansoor Khan on Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. But right before shooting for the song, Saroj Khan cancelled on choreographing Pehla Nasha. In her absence, Mansoor asked Farah to do the number. And thus began her journey as a choreographer. She kept choreographing songs after songs, postponing her plans to direct a film with each one. Eventually, she decided that enough is enough and took a quick break from the rut and eventually made a smashing debut with Main Hoon Na. The rest is history. ALSO READ: Wait, what! Remo D’Souza  After FALTU, Remo rose to fame as a director with ABCD, while also shining on the mantle of Best Choreographer for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Bajirao Mastani. Then came ABCD 2 that put him amongst the top directors of Bollywood. Well, the position slipped from his hands with A Flying Jatt. But before you judge, know that he has Race 3, which stars Salman Khan, in his kitty. The movie, it goes without saying, will strengthen his position once again. Ahmed Khan Popular choreographer Ahmed Khan turned director long back with the film Lakeer in 2004, which did not work out in his favour back then. He continued to shine as a choreographer with directing hits like Afghan Jalebi and Jumme Ki Raat, while also getting over the failure of Fool N Final – another directorial venture. And finally, this year he tasted success as a director with the release of Tiger Shroff-starrer Baaghi 2. The movie has already become one of the most successful movies of 2018. Ganesh Acharya Ganesh Acharya still shines as the top choreographer in Bollywood. Just this year, he has directed dances for Padmaavat and Baaghi 2. Even in 2017, he had hit numbers from Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Judwaa 2 to his credit. Well, he did try his luck with sitting in the director’s chair as well. Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and Swami are two forgettable films he has directed. Last year, he ventured into directing Marathi cinema with Bhikari, which received mixed reviews. Guru Dutt  How many of you knew about this one? Yes, the legendary actor and director had actually begun his career as a choreographer. Unfortunately, not much about his choreography stint is available for research. But we can tell you that he was employed as a choreographer for Prabhat Films, for a brief period, until 1947. Then, of course, he made his directorial debut with Baazi in 1951, with friend Dev Anand playing the main lead
