AUSTRALIAN IDOL, Network Ten
The long-running reality singing contest had its seventh season in 2009. Some questioned whether the contestants were as talented as previous years, and whether viewers had tired of the format. The show scored big name mentors like Liza Minelli, Joel and Benji Madden, but still failed to win big audiences. Nevertheless, the finale showed Idol still had legs, with almost 1.5 million tuning in to watch soul singer Stan Walker triumph over rock chick Hayley Warner to be crowned the winner. It'll be back next year.
