Dress that gave Carol the slip
Mumbai: 12 September 2000
Model Carol Gracias's garment came undone on the ramp for designer Bennu Sehgall at the Lakme India Fashion Week. The front of her dress slipped, giving India its big wardrobe malfunction. It was soon followed by model Gauhar Khan's garment opening at the back during a show. What she said: "It was the biggest wardrobe malfunction that fashion has witnessed. But it was fabulous to see her pick up the garment and take hold of the ramp." Jewella C Miranda, photographer. Status now: Carol did not let that incident affect her and is one of India's top models. She was also one of three finalists at the first season of Bigg Boss and later appeared on Koffee With Karan. 'Yaar Tune Kya Kiya'
Mumbai: 6 May 2001
Actor Fardeen Khan was arrested on a cocaine charge in Juhu by officers early on May 6. Nine grams of cocaine were found in Khan's Opel Astra car and Khan was with a drug peddler when he was held. What he said: "I'm sorry. I regret the anguish caused to loved ones." -- Fardeen. Status now: Fardeen was released in 2001 on conditional bail of Rs 10,000 because he cooperated with the investigators. He wed Mumtaz's daughter Natasha in 2005. His film Dulha Mil Gaya will hit theatres in January. |

Kamal-Sarika separation

The 18-year marriage hit rock bottom after Kamal Haasan's reported affair with co-star Simran. What she said: ''Kamal will never directly ask for a divorce. He only creates such a whirlpool that the other person is forced into a situation where she asks for one." -- Kamal's first wife Vani Ganapathy. Status now: Kamal and Sarika are divorced and he's been with Tamil actress Gouthami since 2004. Sarika is now back in Bollywood, with critically acclaimed films like Manorama Six Feet Under and Parzania. But Sarika and her two daughters are reportedly estranged. |

Go slow, Bharat Shah pleaded
Mumbai: 10 January 2001
Days before his arrest, film financier and diamond merchant Bharat Shah had met a close relative of the prime minister to plead his case. Taped evidence landed Shah in jail for withholding information on the film industry's links with the underworld. He served a 14-month jail sentence in 2001. What he said: A department official confirmed that the state home department was sent feelers to go slow in the Bharat Shah case. Status now: His son's wedding was attending by Bollywood's who's who in February 2009. |

Hemant Trevedi in coma
Mumbai: 23 April 2000
The designer met with a near-fatal accident when his Maruti Esteem rammed into a tempo near Khar junction en route to the airport. Trevedi sustained severe brain injuries and slipped into coma at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital. What he said: ''He shows no signs of recovery." -- Trevedi's designer friend Xerxes Bathena. Status now: Trevedi came out of coma in 2000, and got back into the studio the same year. He also made it to the jury panel of Miss World 2000. He celebrated his 50th birthday in Delhi last month. |
