Default TOP 4 REeasons India Won World Cup 2011

Blow by blow: Sri Lanka innings

Casting A Spell
Zaheer Khan (first spell 5-3-6-1 ) began the Indian charge in right earnest churning out three successive maiden overs to tie the Lankan openers down. Such was the impact of the spell that Lanka mustered its lowest score during the tournament in the first 10 overs.

Sanga Steps In
From the moment Kumara Sangakkara walked on to the crease, he was intent on taking the fight into the opposite camp. He went about the repair job with opener T Dilshan (33) and later with the most trusted partner Mahela Jayawardene.

Mahela Shows Class
Even as the Indians managed to prise out the top order, Mahela stood firm and thwarted the opposition with his experience and class. The loss of partners didn't affect him at all as he continued.

Perera Power
Though Mahela was providing the blows softly and deftly, the final impetus was provided by Thisara Perera who cracked 22 off 9 balls as Lanka raked up 54 runs off the last 4 overs, which left Zaheer's bowling figures in tatters.
