In your early 20s
At this age, do not be afraid to experiment with make-up! Says make-up expert Clint Fernandes, “The younger you are, the more you should experiment with make-up. Your choice of colours should be bold and peppy.”

To get the look:
  • Start with cleansing, toning and moisturising your face.
  • Says Aakriti Kochar, make-up expert, Oriflame India, “Use a little bit of foundation all over your face. In case you have scars or pimples, use a concealer to hide them.”
  • Add some loose powder on your face to settle the foundation.
  • Start with a bright pink eye shadow. Pat it on the centre of your eyelid, blending it on the entire area all the way up to your eye socket.
  • To give dimension to your eyes, choose a darker shade of eye shadow in pink and draw a semi-circle on the outer corner of your eye lid. Make sure you blend both your eye shadows well.
  • Draw a thin line with a black liquid eye liner — very close to your lash line.
  • Fill the water line of your eyes with a white coloured eye pencil to make your eyes look brighter and bigger.
  • Using a pencil brush under your waterline, run a thin line of shimmery navy blue eye shadow to give a pop of colour.
  • Curl your lashes. Apply a top coat of mascara, followed by several bottom coats to your lashes.
  • Apply soft pink blush on the apple of your cheeks, extending it upwards to your cheekbone. Make sure to blend it well.
  • Opt for a fuschia lipstick and finish it with some gloss. If you want to make the look soft, dab some translucent powder on top of your lipstick.

In your late 20s
Says Kochar, “When you are in your late 20s, you’re still establishing your career and becoming more focussed in life. This seriousness is reflected through your make-up also. The brighter and bolder colours should take a backseat while a nude and more sophisticated look comes into focus.”

To get the look:
  • Start by applying a tinted moisturiser.
  • Follow with dots of foundation and blend out gently with the tips of your fingers or a sponge. If required use a concealer.
  • Says Fernandes, “Begin by applying a dark eye shadow — shades of black, blue or gun metal are ideal, to the lids from the lash line moving upwards the crease of the eye. Then with the help of an eye brush, blend the colour outwards diagonally.” Use the same colour on the lower lid with the brush and blend out gently.
  • On the lips, use a natural or nude coloured lip pencil and line the lip also.
  • Finish it with a shimmer gloss.
  • For an evening look, opt for a bronzer to enhance this look.

In your early 30s
By the time you’ve reached your thirties, you’ve already settled down in life — personally as well as professionally. There is definitely more sophistication and feminine elegance in your look at this age.

To get the look:
  • Use a good moisturiser before applying make-up.
  • Use a light diffusing primer or under-base to enhance the finish of your foundation.
  • Follow with dots of liquid foundation and blend out gently with the tip of your fingers. Use a concealer if needed.
  • Says Fernandes, “For the eyes, apply a light pink eye shadow on the upper lid as well as the lower lid and the inner rims of your eyes. Blend out the colour well.”
  • Take a dark brown eye shadow and apply it just on the crease of your eyes and blend well. Apply a hint of the dark brown shadow on the outer corner of your lower lid. With a liquid eye liner, draw a thin line from the inner corner of your eyes moving outwards. Finish with a lash defining mascara.
  • On the cheeks, use an apricot- coloured blush just under the apples of the cheeks and blend towards the contour of your face gently.
  • On the lips, use a lip pencil to line the entire lip. Fill in with a matching red or pink lipstick.
  • Finish the lips with a hint of gloss. Keep the look as matte as possible.
