Default Wild Card Entry in X Factor 2010

  • Gamu could get another lifeline as judges to be given choice of fourth 'wildcard'
She was the darling of early audition stages and controversially missed out on being one of the final 12 contestants.
Today, Gamu Nhengu was in hiding at the flat in Scotland she shares with her mum Nokuthula as awaits her X Factor fate and hopes that she will be offered a wildcard lifeline.
X Factor fans were left furious after Katie Waissel was chosen to go through to the live stages of the show at the expense of Gamu, 18, who was the favourite.

Holed up: Gamu Nhengu's mother Nokuthula, pictured today outside the family's home in Scotland, said her daughter 'doesn't know' if she can speak to anyone following her rejection for the X Factor finals

Now she is playing a waiting game at her Scottish home while the judges decide which contestants who didn't make the initial final 12, will continue on the show as 'wildcards'.
The Mail spoke to her mother at the private residence today who said Gamu was 'around but she doesn't know if she can speak to anyone'.
ITV then called Gamu to let her know she could speak to reporters but she declined to do any interviews today.

The modest flat is home to Gamu, her mother, and her two brothers Milton, 12, and Marty, 10, who moved to Scotland from Zimbabwe eight years ago.

Holed up: This is the very modest apartment block where Gamu has been hiding since the weekend

It's all for her: Gamu and her mother Nokuthula at her first X Factor audition

Gamu told the X Factor judges and the audience when she first auditioned in Glasgow, that she wanted to give something back to her mum.
And despite missing out on one of the coveted 12 final places, she was gracious in defeat and thanked her adopted country for giving her the chance to compete.
She said: 'It would not have been possible... I regard myself as a Scottish contestant because this country has been so good to me.

'I have loads of great friends and loads of good people around me. It has been great.'
Gamu's omission was thought by many to be a mistake, with more than 25,000 joining a Facebook group called 'Gamu should have got through' within three hours of the show airing.

Fail: Katie Waissel fluffs her attempt to sing Charlie Chaplin's Smile for her mentors Cheryl Cole and Will.I.Am in the judges' homes stage of 'The X Factor'

However, it has emerged that Gamu and other hopefuls who failed to be selected at the Judges' House stage may be chosen to continue on the show as 'wildcards'.
Next week's show is expected to reveal that X Factor head honcho Simon Cowell will allow each judge a FOURTH choice to go through to the live shows.
At the weekend meanwhile, while Gamu was note perfect, her rival Waissel appeared to forget the words to Charlie Chaplin's Smile. She then broke down in tears, before being allowed to start again in her performance before judge Cheryl Cole and her close friend, Black Eyed Pea Will.I.Am.

After her somewhat feeble attempt, Will.I.Am appeared to dismiss her, saying: 'She messed that up!' whereas Cheryl simply labelled her a 'drama queen.'

Many viewers are accusing Cheryl of sacrificing better singers and picking the more divisive Katie for the sake of generating headlines for the show.
MailOnline can reveal that dozens of viewers have already lodged complaints with Ofcom over the decisions made about who went through last night too. The watchdog will be collating all the complaints received will reveal more details on Wednesday morning.

Cheryl's girls: Cher Lloyd, Katie Waissel and Rebecca Ferguson made it through to the final 12 of the X Factor; but Gamu missed out, shocking many

Many are calling the decision a fix simply designed to boost ratings and that the show's producers made the final decisions rather than Cheryl, 27.

There was also disbelief that Cher Lloyd won a place in The X Factor's live shows - even though she struggled to sing a single note in her latest performance.

The drama came as the 32 hopefuls were whittled down to 12 ahead of the live shows, which begin next week.
Waissel, 24, meanwhile had already caused controversy and even failed to make it through her first audition on the show without mistakes - despite insisting she was going to be a 'star', an 'icon' and a 'legend'.

X Factor bosses came under pressure to disqualify her afterwards when it emerged she had a record deal in America that she had signed earlier this year under the name of Lola Fontaine.
She was signed to a two-record deal with Chamberlain Records and was about to release a record in Los Angeles before entering the competition.
According to the rules, the hair salon receptionist from Harewood, Herts, should have been banned from continuing in the competition.
However, lawyers managed to get her out of the deal so she could continue:

In addition to her previous recording deal, Miss Waissel also appeared in YouTube show Green Eyed World last year, as Katie Vogel.
Katie sc****d through to boot camp after performing At Last by Etta James, after originally fluffing her lines to Queens We Are The Champions after begging Simon Cowell to give her another chance.
However, a spokeswoman for the show insisted today: 'Katie hasn't broken any rules.

'Yes, the decision to put them through is based on yesterday, but also on their previous performances. And ultimately, it's the judge's decision at the end of the day.'

She added that a massive 16.2million viewers tuned into last night's show at its peak - more than had watched the show's live final in 2008.

Ex-boyfriend: Michael Sophocles was in the 2008 series of The Apprentice

Cheryl told Katie she was 'annoying', before putting her through.

She said: 'First of all I want to say it's been a pleasure to get to know you as a person.
'I think you're quirky, I think you're original, I think there's something very intriguing about you, but I also have to say that there's a little something that I think people could find, if I'm being brutally honest, a little bit annoying.
'Also sometimes when I'm talking to you there's always something that I don't believe.'
Meanwhile, Katie has also been branded as a fame-obsessed *** maniac who has tried to sleep her with celebs to boost her career.

Her ex -boyfriend and former Apprentice star Michael Sophocles told the News Of The World that she bedded himself and singer James Blunt in a bid to become famous.

He said: 'I eventually split from Katie after I caught her snogging dwarf Hollywood actor Jordan Prentice, full on French kissing. Her hands were all over him.'
Sophocles added that towards the end of their relationship, he took Waissel to a TV awards lunch.
He continued: 'As we sat down for lunch with comedian Jimmy Carr on my right and Katie opposite, she told me, 'Listen, I don't want people to know I'm in a relationship with you so make sure they think I'm single.
'"Jimmy Carr might want to take me out." She was desperate to get in with the famous. It was pathetic.'

This week's X Factor magazine

Shortly afterwards Katie dated You're Beautiful singer Blunt, 36, and didn't stop boasting about it. Michael said: 'It wasn't a big thing for James. Nevertheless, because of his fame, Katie was very into him.'

Meanwhile, online magazine Anorak is claiming that Waissel being put through was a fix as she already has links with Sony, the record label with which Cowell's Syco Music is affiliated.
However, their claims appear to amount to little more than pointing out that Waissel had bumped into a few people from the label over the years as she's tried to make it as a singer - hardly surprising in the music industry.
Katie was also the subject of an online reality YouTube TV show last year called Green Eyed World, which was an adveritising vehicle for soft drink Sprite.

It sold itself as following then brunette musician Katie as flew to New York to try and make it big in the music world.
Joining Katie in Cheryl's final three are Cher Lloyd, 17, who also failed to complete her song at the Judges' house round, and single mother Rebecca Ferguson, 23, from Liverpool, whose audition Cheryl missed as she battled malaria.
