Thumbs up Best posters of 2008

The year 2008 wasn't an extraordinary one for Bollywood. But it sure had its moments with various genres like fashion, rock, history, horror, romance, realism, comedy, sci-fi, animation and action vying for attention. And to achieve that with immediate effect, filmmakers worked up imaginative posters. While some of them were strictly run-of-the-mill, the following few had our curious side up:

Fashion
Priyanka Chopra was easily one of the most visible faces of the year. She had a whopping six releases -- Love Story 2050, God Tussi Great Ho, Chamku, Drona, Dostana and Fashion.
Luckily for her, the last two clicked. While Dostana's billboard was boring and downplayed, Fashion conveyed both the style and drama that unfolds in Priyanka's reel-life with this sleekly done cover.

Split in two is the image of a relatively unknown albeit pensive-looking face (Rajeev Khandelwal) and a monochromatic other half depicting Mumbai city at it chaotic best. Do note the font in its title, which substitutes 'I' with an icon for cellular network, in view of the mobile phone that plays a major role in this thrilling drama. Impressive detailing.

Mumbai Meri Jaan's poster features symbolic images of a fast-moving local train compartment and a wreath, in an understated yet hard-hitting manner, to make its point. The film chronicles the aftermath of the train blasts of Mumbai in 2006.

Thumbs up Notional Award of 2008 for Best Film

A inquisitive young boy and his four-legged best-friend, Birbal are the adorable subjects of this well-meaning fable set in terror-ridden Kashmir. And the nicely done poster asserts just that.
