About the show:
  • Jyoti is an Indian television series that was aired on Imagine TV, produced by Sphere Origins. It started airing on 16 February 2009, and concluded on 27 November 2010.
  • The series is based on a real life incident of a person close to the writer Purnendu Shekhar.

  • Speaking about the series writer Purnendu Shekhar said: "Jyoti is inspired by a person who was very close to me. She used to tie rakhi to me. So she was like my sister. Her story was waiting to be told, and it was easier to keep the story real as the twists and turns did take place in her life. Most scenes and also dialogues have actually taken place."
  • The channel had a tie up with Bell Bhajao Campaign reaching out about 124 million people for promoting the series in October 2009
  • This serial was aired on Imagine TV in 511 episodes starting from 16th February 2009 to 27th November 2010. The producers were planning to produce a season 2 of the same serial but it could not materialize due to closure of TV channel. It is heard that season 2 of this very popular serial will be aired on Life OK channel. The concept of a helpless father and breadwinner daughter remains the same but there may be some pivotal changes.
Story:
  • The series revolves around the daily struggles of Jyoti who is the only earning member of her family. It captures the social atrocities prevailing in our society.
  • The series has portrayed many serious issues beautifully through several story lines that run parallel and has depicted the social evils in a realistic form. The events that occur in the show are very relatable to the "middle class" culture and show how vulnerability causes destruction.
