The
American Music Awards show was broadcast live on ABC, from Nokia Theater, on November 21, 2010. Awards winners were selected by fan vote, making this a recognition of fan favorites. Justin Bieber received top honors, netting four awards. Award winners included Rihanna, Usher, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Muse, MercyMe, Shakira and Michael Buble.
Teen phenom Justin Bieber received four awards, including Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist of the Yer and Favorite Pop/Rock Album for
My World 2.0. Bieber called his buddy Usher up on stage, pronouncing him his mentor and best friend. Usher won the award for Favorite Male Artist T&B.
Rihanna, who opened the show with a medley, won the award for Favorite Female Artist R&B. Rihanna's opening medley featured "Love the Way You Lie (Part II)," "What's My Name," and "Only Girl In the World."
Taylor Swift, who performed Back to December, took home Favorite Female Artist - Country. Country artist Brad Paisley, who won the
CMA Entertainer of the Year Award last week, took the award for Favorite Male Artist - Country. Carrie Underwood won for Favorite Country Album for Play On.
Eminem won two awards for Favorite Male Artist and Album (Rap/Hip-Hop. The Black Eyed Peas took home the Favorite Band, Duo or Group (Pop/Rock).
Newlywed Katy Perry lit up the stage with "Firework." Christina Aguilera performed "Express" from her upcoming film Burlesque. The night also marked television history as
New Kids On The Block and
Backstreet Boys performed in harmony, closing the show together on one stage.
