Raw or undercooked eggs

Expecting mothers must not consume raw, undercooked, or soft-boiled eggs for, they have harmful salmonella bacteria which cause food poisoning. One might experience diarrhea, severe vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, and high temperature. All these symptoms are unlikely to harm your baby and weaken your immune system.

Caffeine


Pregnant women are advised either to restrict or completely cut of caffeine intake which is majorly found in coffee, tea, soft drinks and cocoa. Caffeine is absorbed very quickly, and passes easily into the placenta and fetus. Because unborn babies and their placentas do not have the main enzyme needed to metabolize caffeine, high levels can build up.

Smoked seafood


Refrigerated, smoked seafood often labelled as lox, nova style, kippered, or jerky should be avoided because it could be contaminated with listeria. This type of fish is often found in the deli section of your grocery store.

Brinjal


This is one of the most common vegetables used in majority of Indian homes. However, egg plant has been found to be quite effective in treating amenorrhoea and premenstrual syndrome in Ayurveda. On the basis of this property, egg plant is regarded as dangerous to consume during pregnancy. However, having them once in a while in small quantities should not pose a problem.

Papaya

Papaya is said to stimulate an abortion hence is proved very dangerous to consume during pregnancy. Raw and unripe papaya contains a substance called latex, which causes uterine contractions. Papain and pepsin contents in papaya restricts fetal growth.

Peanuts

If you would like to eat peanuts or food containing peanuts (such as peanut ****er) during pregnancy, you can choose to do so as part of a healthy balanced diet, unless you are allergic to them or your health professional advises you not to. Exclusion of any particular foods (including foods considered to be highly allergenic) from the maternal diet during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended, as this has not been shown to prevent allergies.

Raw sprouts


Do not eat raw sprouts including clover, alfalfa, mung bean, radish, broccoli, sunflower, onion, soybean, and snowpea sprouts. They are highly prone to listeria, salmonella, and E.coli bacteria. As you know, listeriosis could lead to premature birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, and infections in newborns. Salmonella and E.coli can lead to severe illnesses.

Canned foods


The lining of the food cans contains Bisphenol A (BPA), a toxic substance that affects the fetal endocrine activity and causes fertility problems, cancer, liver ailments, and heart diseases in pregnant women and the tinned foods might be too old to eat and harbor harmful bacteria due to their long shelf life. Solution: Opt for fresh vegetables, fruits, and fish or you can find varieties where BPA is not used.
