</figure> Also known as Kojagiri Poornima, Sharad Purnima is celebrated in the month of Ashvin of Hindu calendar on the full moon day. This year the festival falls on 5 October. It is celebrated by worshipping goddess Lakshmi and observing night vigil. This harvest festival is also called Kaumudi celebration, which means moonlight celebration. According to legends, there was a king who was in a bad financial situation. Kojagara means ‘who is awake.’Apart from goddess Laksmi, Indra is also worshipped on this day. It is believed that the moon rays on this day have medicinal properties and it is beneficial for the soul and body. People also prepare delicacies and offer them to the moon. Here is the recipe for masala dudh by Ruchi Bharani and rice kheer by Varun Inamdar from Rajshri Food.

Ingredients for masala dudh:

1 liter of milk
1 tablespoon of cardamom powder
Half a cup of pistachios
Half a cup of almonds
1/4 cup of cashew nuts
4 teaspoons of nutmeg powder
Some saffron strands
Sugar to taste

Method:


Take the almonds, nutmeg powder, cashew nuts, pistachios, cardamom powder and saffron strands and grinds them to fine powder.
Boil the milk and add in couple of powder. Add sugar and give it a stir.
Boil the milk for about 6 minutes. Your masala milk or masala dudh is ready. Here is the video.

Ingredients for rice kheer:

1.5 liters of milk
1/2 cup Long grained Rice ( soaked for half an hour and drained)
1 cup sugar
Few strands of saffron
1 tablespoon vanilla custard powder/ cornflour
2 tablespoons golden raisins
2 green cardamoms
Almond flaks and rose petals for garnishing

Method:


Take the milk in a pan and boil it. Keep few tablespoons of milk separate to dissolve the custard powder.
Add the soaked and drained long grained rice and let it cook.
Add sugar, saffron, cardamom seeds and golden raisin in the milk.
Now, make slurry of the custard powder or corn flour with the separated milk and add it to the kheer.
Let the milk thicken and your kheer is ready.
