Naagin 3 Review: Rajat Tokas makes the maximum impact as Vikrant in Ekta Kapoor’s supernatural revenge drama

Naagin 3 starts with the scene of a red snake making its way into the Shiva Temple. We see a woman lying on the floor. She is surrounded by snakes. It is Shivangi aka Mouni Roy. She gets up slowly. A flashback is shown where Rocky (Karanvir Bohra) ****s Shivangi. She is left wondering why her husband Rocky and father, Ritik ****ed her. She dies saying that the Naagin will return. The chapter of Shivangi ends. We are introduced to the next chapter that begins at a famous Lord Shiva ‘Maha Rudra’ temple close to Mumbai. It is a 3000-year old Swayambhu Temple. Local villagers are praying there. A man Andy Sehgal (Chetan Hansraj) wants to demolish the temple to build a hotel there. He does not listen to the villagers who talk about the importance of the temple, which is a favourite with serpents. They try to tell him that a curse will befall his family but he does not listen. The village folk say the snakes themselves protect the temple. He tells his cronies to demolish the mandir. A storm comes and the priest warns him once again. They say the descendants of the snakes live in the haveli and they should not be disturbed. Andy Sehgal’s men begin their task but a storm comes. The priests again warn him. They say a Naag-Naagin couple protect the temple. Andy says he is devil incarnate and will destroy the place. The priest prays to Lord Shiva and the temple is infested with serpents. Andy Sehgal’s men tell him to call Shalaka to control the snakes but he does not believe in such humbug. He tells his people to continue work by getting a contractor. Andy Sehgal leaves the place. We see one of his men turning into a snake as he leaves. His kids are shown drinking right in the middle of the forest. They are arrogant as they are Sehgal’s kids. The boys are checking out girls outside a ladies restroom. We see the team of Veere Di Wedding, who have come for promotions. The boys tease Swara and Shikha and we finally see Kareena Kapoor Khan, which is Kalindi Puri making an appearance. She points a gun at the guys and tells them to apologise. Upset after the humiliation, the guys head to the haveli, which is close to the temple. They are drinking there. It is the full moon night and Ruhi (Karishma Tanna) has come into the human form. She is dancing away. The boys hear the noise and wonder who is it? Ruhi and Vikrant are getting ******** before tying the knot when the guys see the girl. They lust after Ruhi. She comes there dressed as a bride. They tease her and she gets angry. However, Vikrant stops her and repeatedly requests them to leave the place. He makes Ruhi promise that she cannot reveal her true form before them.
The boys **** Vikrant who due to the promise given to Guruji cannot change his form. The good guy in the group, Pratham calls up Maahir (Pearl V Puri) and tells him to rush to the place as the boys are drunk and upto bad deeds. Vikrant becomes a snake and the boys get terrified. They take Ruhi as a hostage to prevent Vikrant from attacking them. However, the conceded and Vikrant takes human form. When he does that, they **** him. A devastated Ruhi swears to avenge the death of her partner. Tomorrow, we will see the entry of Anita Hassanandani as the avenging Vishakha Khanna.
Verdict
The first episode was good except the forced promotions of Veere Di Wedding. It looks like an engaging and entertaining revenge drama so far. Acting wise, it was Rajat Tokas and Ankit Mohan who made maximum impact. The Jodha Akbar actor was fabulous as Naag Raaj while Ankit is sufficiently despicable. Karishma looked like a dream in that Amrapali costume and her chemistry with Rajat was dreamy.
The sore point is the VFX, which is better than season two. We see a number of big snakes opening their mouths like dragons! Chetan Hansraj as the villainous Andy Sehgal was more funny than menacing. With a mix of folklore, supernatural powers, revenge, romance and drama, Naagin 3 seems to have the masala elements intact. We are quite excited by the promo of tomorrow’s episode, which promises Anita Hassanandani in a Shesha type character. Stay tuned!
