The one guest who DIDN'T want to be there: Runaway horse throws its soldier and makes a swift exit

It wouldn’t be a proper wedding if there wasn’t at least one slip-up.
But pity the poor cavalry guardsman who fell from his horse when it spooked at the cheering crowds.
He desperately tried to cling on, but was thrown onto the tarmac as the carriage procession left Westminster Abbey and turned from Parliament Square onto Whitehall.
At first he managed to grab onto the reins and keep his steed to one side, as Kate and William passed by in their open-top 1902 State Landau.
Kate, who is allergic to horses, looked shocked and a little worried, but William calmly reassured her.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/...35_634x409.jpg Homing sense: The riderless creature careers alongside the procession - but eventually found its way home to the stables at Horse Guards' Barracks

It was at this point that the horse broke free of its rider’s grip and bolted up the road.
It overtook the newly-weds’ carriage and a mounted police officer tried to grab its reins.
The rest of the Household Cavalry, comprised of the Life Guards and Prince Harry’s Blues and Royals, looked on as their horses dodged the runaway.
As it careered up the road, police officers stationed at the crowd barriers yelled at the spectators to protect their faces with their arms in case it charged into the crowd.

Fortunately for the frightened animal, and the thousands lining the streets, it made straight for home – the stables of the Horse Guards’ Barracks further up Whitehall
Claire Davis, 37, watched the commotion with her husband Horace, 40, and their children Alannah, 13 and Marcus, five.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/...03_634x432.jpg Just married: Kate looked alarmed when she saw the horse break loose but was reassured by her new husband

Mrs Davis, from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, said: ‘The horses seemed to be quite upset and distressed with the cheering of the crowd and one of the horse’s heads went up and he jolted the rider off.
‘Another soldier grabbed the horse by the reins and was telling the guy who had fallen off to come to the side and remount.
‘But it was difficult for him to regain control, without someone on its back.
‘He was trying to herd it down the side of the barrier but it was hard as the horse was so strong.
‘People were worried about it charging into the crowd, and the rider stopped it doing that at a crucial moment which really prevented a disaster.
Another onlooker Kelly Littlewood, 24, from Gee Cross in Greater Manchester, said: ‘Kate pulled a funny face and looked quite worried when it happened.
‘The horse raced up the road right in front of Kate and William’s carriage, but you could see William calming Kate down.
‘It was very fortunate that no-one was injured – that would have been dreadful.’

SSSHH...! The sound of London celebrating the Royal Wedding gets a bit too much for one bridesmaid

Being invited to the wedding of the decade would make most people beside themselves with excitement, but for the youngsters chosen to accompany Kate Middleton down the aisle it was a dream come true.
As the world watched, the six children who made up the bride's troupe of bridesmaids and pageboys were the epitome of good behaviour and composure - for the most part at least.
The noise of millions clapping and cheering outside Buckingham Palace got too much for the new Duke of Cambridge's three-year-old goddaughter Grace Van Cutsem who covered her ears to escape the racket when she joined the happy couple on the balcony.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/...17_634x398.jpg Pipe down: Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge kiss on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, but it's all too much for bridemaid Grace van Cutsem, left, who has to cover her ears from all the cheering
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/...99_306x423.jpg Ssshhh: Bridesmaid Grace van Cutsem covers her ears during the fly past watched by millions

And her displeasure at the noise was all too apparent from the look on her face. Even as Kate bent down to comfort her as the flypast approached, she repeated the gesture.
However, during the service all assumed the look of solemnity befitting the event and appeared to be concentrating hard on their jobs.

While none of them flinched at the attention, three-year-old Eliza Lopes, the Duchess of Cornwall's granddaughter, clutched her floral head-dress constantly, apparently concerned it might slip off.
The others, William's seven-year-old cousin Lady Louise Windsor and his second cousin Margarita Armstrong-Jones, eight, Billy Lowther-Pinkerton, 10, the son of William's private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, and the prince's godson, Tom Pettifer, eight, also appeared stern as they played the role they had rehearsed only yesterday at Westminster Abbey.
Despite their young ages, all six children seemed to appreciate the importance of the ceremony, frowning seriously as they stopped behind the bride when she reached the altar.

Only once the ceremony was over and they were on their way out of the church did the infants appear to relax a little - realising, perhaps, that they had performed their duties with aplomb.
The elder children even allowed themselves to smile a little as they left the abbey - although Eliza still fiddled with her head-dress.

As the newlyweds climbed into their waiting carriage, Tom broke into a broad grin, gazing about in joyous wonder at the scene.
And when the happy couple entered Buckingham Palace with the children behind them, the little boy, still smiling, could hardly take his eyes off them.
Only once they took to the balcony of the palace, where Prince William kissed his bride, did one or two of the infants become overwhelmed.
For the most part though they won the hearts of the adoring public as they waved and smiled.

Speaking near the abbey, April Brown, 45, from Chievely in Berkshire, said: 'They all looked so cute. I noticed that with one of the tiny bridesmaids, her mum brought her forward to join the procession.'
Lesley Hill, 44, from St Helen's, said: 'I thought the page boys and flower girls were very cute and their outfits were beautiful.

The children looked 'so beautiful', Doris Narty, 74, from Ghana, gushed. 'Their quality was superb. Everything was perfection.'
Indeed the bridesmaids' hand-made dresses were the stuff of every little girl's dreams.
Ivory with ballerina-length pleated skirts, puff sleeves and gold sashes tied in a bow, they were created by bespoke childrenswear designer Nicki Macfarlane, whose daughter Charlotte Macfarlane helped make them at their homes in Wiltshire and Kent.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/...74_634x391.jpg Hello up there: Pageboy Tom Petiffer glances as he waits with bridesmaids and his fellow pageboy inside Westminster Abbey before the ceremony

The younger bridesmaids wore ivy and lily-of-the-valley hair wreaths, inspired by the head-dress worn by Kate's mother Carole Middleton at her wedding in 1981.

As a special memento, each of the four girls have had their name and the date of the wedding hand-embroidered on to the lining of their dresses.
Echoing Kate's dress, they were made using the same fabrics.
The full, box pleated skirt was used to add a sculptural quality, with the layering of ivory over white satin gazar adding depth of colour.
The dresses were hand-finished with delicate English Cluny lace, visible under the skirts, and four layers of net underskirt.
The puff sleeves and neckline were trimmed with the same English lace as the bride's underskirt, while the backs were finished with the same ****on detail.

The sashes were made of pale gold wild silk, tucked at the front and tied at the back in a sumptuous bow, St James's Palace said.
On their feet the girls wore classic Mary Jane style satin shoes with a Swarovski crystal buckle, made by Devon-based Rainbow Club.
The bridesmaids' bouquets by Shane Connolly used flowers from the bride's bouquet, including lily-of-the-valley, sweet William and hyacinth.

Their waist-length capes, also by Nicki Macfarlane, were made from ivory Yorkshire wool, edged in fine English lace and tied at the front in the same satin gazar as the dresses.
Mrs Macfarlane professed herself 'thrilled and honoured' at being asked to design the dresses.
'I couldn't be more proud to have been part of this wonderful day,' she said.
The page boys were dressed in the Regency-style red tunic of a Foot Guards officer.
The look, which dates from the 1820s, draws its insignia from the Irish Guards.

WHO'S WHO: MEET THE BRIDESMAIDS AND PAGE BOYS

All the children have close ties to the Royal couple - especially William.

Lady Louise Windsor, seven, is the daughter of Edward and Sophie, the Count and Countess of Wes***, making her the Prince's cousin.

Eliza Lopes, three, is the child of the Duchess of Cornwall's daughter Laura and her husband Harry Lopes.

Grace van Cutsem, also three, is William's goddaughter - the daughter of his close friends Rose Astor and Hugh van Cutsem.

The fourth, and eldest of the girls is the Hon Margarita Armstrong-Jones, eight. Her parents are Viscount and Viscountess Linley. Her grandmother was Princess Margaret.

There were two pageboys: Tom Pettifer, eight, and William (Billy) Lowther-Pinkerton, ten.

Billy is the son of William's private secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.

Tom is the son of William's former nanny Tiggy Legge-Bourke and her husband Charles Pettifer.

The Royal joker: Harry quips his way through wedding... but not everyone is amused

He is infamous for his bad jokes – and even on the Buckingham Palace balcony Prince Harry struck again. The 26-year-old quipped that his grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh was dwarfed by Kate Middleton, who stood tall in three-inch heels alongside her prince.
His stunning second sister-in-law Pippa, 27, did not appear amused – but she will need to get used to Harry’s humour.

Whoops! David Beckham in last-minute OBE switch to avoid embarrassing own goal at the Royal Wedding

in the style stakes. But despite looking groomed to perfection and dapper in his Ralph Lauren morning suit, David Beckham had a very small slip-up today at the Royal Wedding.
The footballer arrived at Westminster Abbey this morning proudly wearing his OBE medal displayed - but unfortunately, David wore it on his right lapel.

Switcheroo: David Beckham arrived at the wedding with his OBE medal on the right side of his suit lapel, but later changed it to the left

Very few would have even noticed, but those in the know were quick to comment on the 35-year-old's misstep.

Traditionally, the OBE medal is worn on the left side, and commentators during the coverage noted the faux pas during their telecasts.

Either he noticed others inside the Abbey wearing their own medals on the left, or someone had a quiet word to him - but before the ceremony had even begun, David had switched it over to the other side.

Despite this, the Beckhams were in high spirits and were spotted chatting animatedly to fellow guests Guy Ritchie and Sir Trevor Brooking.
David's spokesperson was quick to play down the small slip-up, but told Mail Online that the couple had a wonderful time at the wedding.

In a statement released afterwards, they said: 'Today's ceremony was beautiful and heartfelt. Catherine looked wonderfully elegant and we were honoured to be part of such a special, historical day for our country.

'We wish Catherine and William much love and happiness for the future.'

David's wife Victoria's outfit was among the most eagerly-anticipated among style watchers, after the bride of course.
As Victoria's spokesperson confirmed to MailOnline, the pregnant fashion guru wore a stunning midnight blue boat neck tunic dress from her latest AW11 collection, which she unveiled at New York Fashion Week in February.

Victoria had her hair tied back in a long ponytail and accessorised the outfit with a Phillip Treacy hat and a pair of specially customised Christian Louboutin heels.
